Cazador de Cerebros La2 RTVE “Inflamados”

Dr. María Mittelbrunn, from the Severo Ochoa Center for Molecular Biology (CBMSO), investigates the implications of chronic inflammation in aging, a process known as inflammaging. For Mittelbrunn, who was interviewed by ‘El Cazador de Cerebros’ in its eighth season, there are two common factors in these age-related pathologies: they are associated with chronic inflammation involving immune system cells, and the proper function of tissues and organs is disrupted.

Thanks to the growing interest in this area, a paradigm shift has been detected in recent years. “Previously, we thought there was a correlation between inflammation and age-associated pathologies, but we have seen that it is more of a cause-effect relationship, in which the immune system contributes,” she points out.
